I don't see any discussion of "My Goals Beyond" in the Mahavishnu Orchestra page. It featured Cobham and Goodman and is to my knowledge the first recording when McLaughlin began using the name "Mahavishnu John McLaughlin". I think it is worth a reference on this page. Mahavishnu

[edit]

I really don't think that Mahavishnu stuff should be included w/ mahavishnu orchestra stuff, for the following reasons:

1)They are not hte same name
2)Even if you consider the names close enough, heres why I think such should not be considered corrrect:
Tho McLaughlin may have made many productions between the break up of the 1st Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the 2nd, none of them were real high profile. Between 2nd Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Mahavishnu, however there is quite a high profile near career to consider.

Please reconsider this!

Please clarify that..? McYaballow (talk) 19:06, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:B00000252D.01. SCLZZZZZZZ .jpg

[edit]

Image:B00000252D.01. SCLZZZZZZZ .jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 'Former members' list

[edit]

I'd like to relabel this simply 'members', as 'former' gives the erroneous impression the band is still active, but I don't understand this bit of mark-up: when I remove 'past' from 'past_members', and realign, the list just disappears. Rothorpe (talk) 01:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mahavishnu Heavy Metal?

[edit]

Since when was Mahavishnu considered Heavy Metal? Although they have some concepts used in Heavy Metal, by the early 70's there were relatively few Hard Rock and Progressive Rock Bands, and the standard Aesthetics of Heavy Metal were starting to be introduced in the mid 70's, even Yngwie was considered a Rock guitarist by 1983. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.154.101.251 (talk) 12:41, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What is "Q8"?

[edit]

Q8 is listed among the release formats (along with CD, vinyl, etc). What on earth is Q8? A google search didn't shed any light on this. 24.108.155.196 (talk) 04:27, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, finally found a reference somewhere. This appears to be Quadraphonic 8-track cartridge format. Well I've hotlinked "Q8" to the relevant section of the Quadraphonic Sound article. I've also hotlinked "CS" to the Cassette Tape article, in case it's not clear to some what CS means.

Honestly these format listings on this page are a bit of a mess. Normal stereo 8-track releases are not listed, and I believe The Inner Mounting flame was released on cassette and 8-track as well, but those aren't listed here. I, for one, question the value of listing the various formats anyway, but in any case, I do not have the energy to cross-reference and update every released format for every album. 24.108.155.196 (talk) 04:40, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Release date for The Inner Mounting Flame

[edit]

The stated release date of August 14, 1971 doesn't seem right. The separate article on the album lists August 14 as the RECORDING date, and November 3 as the release date. Neither date is cited. The album was reviewed in the December 11 issue of Billboard, suggesting that the November date is correct. The catalog number, Columbia 31067, doesn't fit in with Columbia August releases, but does fit with November releases. E.g. Byrds Farther Along, Columbia 31050, which we list as being released Nov. 17. Other online sites list August 1971 as either the recording month or the release month. Unfortunately I don't have any authoritative reference I can cite, so I don't really think I can change the date. PatConolly (talk) 19:44, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
